Q. What is EMhealth?

EMhealth is a free online Health and Wellness system designed to help EML members plan, implement and evaluate their workplace Health and Wellness programs. It contains an online employee survey tool, a program assessment tool and a resources area.

Q. What will EMhealth help me to do?

EMhealth will help you with the planning, implementation and evaluation of a Health and Wellness program. The assessment tool will help you in planning a Health and Wellness program as well as evaluating both ongoing and completed programs. The survey feature allows you to gather employee feedback on both planned and current Health and Wellness programs. EMhealth also includes useful resources, such policies and templates, as well as links to Health and Wellness sites.

Q. Will EMhealth assess the health of my employees?

EMhealth does not conduct any form of individual health assessment. It does however contain links to government websites, such as NSW's get healthy at work program (www.gethealthyatwork.com.au/eml), where your employees may be able to conduct assessments should they wish to.

Q. What is the benefit of having a Health and Wellness program?

Analysis of data has shown that workplace Health and Wellness programs can have a significant return on investment. A study in 2007 showed that Health and Wellness programs have resulted in an average 25.3% decrease in sick leave absenteeism, a 40.7% decrease in workers compensation costs, and 24.2% decrease in disability management costs. The return on investment in many cases has ranged between $3 and $5 for every $1 invested in employee wellbeing.

Q. Why have the Health and Wellness program in the Workplace?

By running the program in the workplace, you are able to target a large number of people through an existing infrastructure. The program has benefits for both the employee and the employer and can lead to indirect benefits such as:

  • Increased employee retention
  • Improvements in corporate image
  • Improved staff morale
  • Improved team relationships
Q. Does a Health and Wellness program need to be expensive?

A Health and Wellness program does not need to be expensive. There are changes which can be made which don't have to cost anything, live encouraging people to use the stairs rather than a lift. There are also many free resources available from health organisations, as well as health events which your business and employees can participate in.
